ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born on July 2nd, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her along with her sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan played multiple sports throughout her childhood , but did not play soccer until she turned 14. After high school, she joined the Cypress Elite club team. They took home the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and came in third in their under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to refine her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has selected Morgan to be an All-American Athlete. She was also a part of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scorer from her first season. The team was able to reach the NCAA Tournament in four years, and the second round twice. Morgan was one of four finalist for the Honda Sports Award and the first Berkeley student to be ranked among the top Hermann Trophy finalists. After graduating earlier in the year, Morgan was ranked third in all-time goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan was a soccer player at the collegiate as well as national levels throughout her time at school. Morgan was injured in her ACL during her first year at Berkeley. The injury prevented her from participating in U.S. women's under-20 soccer until April of 2008. She scored her debut international goal in Mexico at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a participant in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals, which earned the team gold medals. One of them was a victory goal over Italy that secured the U.S. team a final spot at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team, and he led the team to victory over France. Morgan, despite U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score a goal or assist.
