Patricia Velásquez
Creativity transcends films, canvas,
photos, and media. It also serves as an inspiration for philanthropy, charity,
and activism. Award-winning actress, history-making supermodel, staunch
philanthropist, conscientious activist, author, and loving mother Patricia
Velasquez applies an eternal creativity to everything she does. Whether it's
appearing in blockbusters like The Curse of La Llorona or launching the Wayuu
Taya Foundation and participating in the UNESCO Board. Regardless, she makes
major steps by drawing upon her instincts and deliberately paving her own
pathway. She says, "I see my career as a ladder." "I have taken
every step. It was incredible to do this, because there has been perseverance.
I never stopped moving, simply sat down. The metaphor directly resembles the
experience of forming. The author was born in Venezuela but educated in France
and Mexico She moved to Venezuela after a couple of years. In South America,
her parents were employed in the field of education. They then moved the family
into a crowded apartment that had no water and inoperable elevators. Patricia
carried fifteen staircases up using heavy buckets in order to provide water to
the area. In between studying engineering and intense dance lessons she aimed
to aid the family in any way that was possible. The commitment she made to her
family members, which was the key to her rise to the top of the fashion world,
saw her sought-after to model in Milan. She says, "When they asked me to
go to Italy I replied that if I could send thirty dollars per month to
Venezuela and it's worth it, because that will cover the entire building's
water'." Patricia's achievements were a major moment in fashion in that
she gained attention for South America for first time. She experienced a big
break after becoming "the first model Karl Lagerfeld ever
photographed" and then going on to walk in shows, be a part of editorial
spreads and advertisements for front pages of Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana,
Fendi, Chloe, Cover Girl, and Victoria's Secret just to mention several.
Resonating around the globe, she was featured on Oprah as well as Ford Models'
"Supermodel of the World" contest as well. Also that she graced the
pages of Vogue, Bazaar, Marie Claire and many more.
