Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen), 29 September 1931-11 January 2015) was an Swedish actress, famous for her stunning figure and beauty. She gained notoriety for her iconic role in the role of Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vita (1960). Ekberg primarily worked in Italy and was granted a permanent residence in 1964. Anita Ekberg was the eighth child in a family of eight. Anita was a fashion model in her teens. Ekberg entered the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 on the advice of her mother. This led to her being selected for the Miss Sweden contest which she took home. Despite speaking little English, Ekberg went to America to compete in the Miss Universe 1951 title. It was an unofficial pageant at the time. The pageant was officially made officially recognized in 1952. Ekberg did not win the title of Miss Universe winner, but she was among six finalist. She did however earn an agreement with Universal Studios as a starlet. As the starlet at Universal she received training in elocution and drama, dancing, horseback riding, and fencing. She was briefly featured in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello Go to Mars (1953) (playing an actress on Venus), Take Me to Town (1953), and The Golden Blade (1953).
